So, you’re considering a swiftwater rescue workshop—what exactly happens during one? At Costa Rica Paddle, our rescue course is built to give you real-life skills through hands-on training in real-world conditions.

Day 1: Foundation Skills You’ll learn hydrology basics, PPE inspection, knot tying, and how to use throw bags with accuracy. We simulate on-shore rescues before getting wet.

Day 2: Swimming and Self-Rescue You’ll swim rapids, practice defensive and aggressive swimming, and understand safe eddy access and exiting. Expect real exposure to current.

Live Bait and Group Scenarios This day covers V-lowers, wading rescues, mechanical advantage systems, and live bait techniques. Teamwork and safety under stress are emphasized.

Throughout the course, you’ll receive guidance from ACA and IRF-certified instructors who tailor training to your goals—whether you’re a beginner or pro.

Bonus: You’ll also gain confidence, leadership, and wilderness awareness. By the end, you’ll have tools to keep yourself—and others—safe on the river.
