Trying SUP for the first time? Great choice! It’s a fun, accessible, full-body activity. But before you step on a board, make sure you’re aware of these safety basics

Top Safety Tips for First-Time SUPers:

  1. Wear a PFD (life vest) – Non-negotiable on rivers and recommended on lakes.
  2. Leash up – Use a breakaway leash in rivers and standard in flatwater.
  3. Check conditions – Avoid high winds, strong currents, or fast-moving water if you’re new.
  4. Learn how to fall – Fall away from the board to avoid injury.
  5. Practice self-rescue – Know how to get back on your board.
